Update: DuVall Recovering After Auto Accident
Source: EMuscleMag.com

Good news on Mat DuVall. Over the weekend we learned that he is now only one step away from full recovery with that arm he injured recently. As some of you may recall, DuVall was in a car accident last month. He was dragged along the asphalt when he flipped his truck attempting to avoid a car in front of him. Along with several gashes to his head, he also suffered two severed arteries in his arm, which had to be repaired through surgery. Mat is deemed to have a pair of the biggest, strongest arms in the business. Get well, Mat, we look forward to your return at the Nationals in November.

DuVall Involved In Serious Auto Accident

NPC top competitor Mat Duvall was involved in a car accident on May 1st. In Mat's word "When the vehicle I was in flipped went over, my arm was dragged on the asphalt when the drivers side glass broke. I am very lucky considering that most would have lost an arm. I suffered 2 severed arteries, and obviously some damage to the surface skin, superficial injuries. I sat in the emergency room for about 4 hours before a plastic surgeon was available to fix the arteries and consult me concerning the injuries, i.e. how they would heal and how he could help. They held me overnight at the hospital to make sure there was no damage to any major organs. The impact was pretty solid. I am feeling fine today, just frustrated that my arm is wrapped so tight I cannot use it, and being that I am left handed leaves me out of commission, (not to mention, there goes my love life ) (lol) Actually, I am ambidextrous, so I can manage. I will be back in the gym Monday to do legs. Should I have to do legs 3 times a week for the next 10-14 days then so be it. I will not stay out of the gym as each day that the Nationals approaches I get more intense. [b] The surgeon that fixed my arm was awesome and assured me he would have my arm ready to perform within a week and looking fine by July/August. Right now it is hard to tell as there is a lot of scratches and such, not to mention blood. Again, I am extremely blessed that I did not lose an arm, or my life. Most important is that the lady I hit was ok, along with her children. I would never be able to live with myself if I hurt an innocent victim.

I moved back home to the Northern VA area. Now, I am settled, training in 2 of the best gyms in Northern VA, and getting my life back to where it needed to be 8 years ago. I decided to move all over the United States, looking for Utopia. All along that place existed, right where I was born and raised. Training has been great as I am training with Charles Dorsey, that is going to make a HUGE impact at the 2003 Nationals. Charles is in the heavyweight class, and is one thick gentleman. Aside from training I am keeping busy by studying for my general contractors exam, and real estate exam. I grew up on construction sites working for my dad or uncles, now I want to build the homes myself, then be able to sell them. This, and in August I still intend to go to a wrestling camp in Pennsylvania. I want to be in that ring, battling with Steiner, as soon as I can! This process will take a lot longer, but I am willing as the rewards far outweigh the hard work it takes to break into the industry.

Please everybody, know that this will only make me stronger. I will not allow it to take me off course. The Nationals is very important to me, despite having bigger goals now in life. My passion in life is my training and what I can do in the gym. This, believe it or not, will force me to train even harder and push my body to the absolute threshold! I will get to 320 by June, and then come into the Nationals sicker looking than ever. I want to go out looking like the pro I have always wanted to be! I will earn it decisively, this I promise."
